New pilot project to minimize waste, shorten construction timelines, and deliver quieter, healthier and more energy-efficient homes

Babcock Ranch, FL (December 17, 2024) – Babcock Ranch, America’s first solar-powered town, is excited to announce a new collaboration to pilot innovative green construction technologies in its Palmetto Landing neighborhood. The community will feature homes built by D.R. Horton utilizing BamCore wall systems in partnership with Builders FirstSource.

The pilot project will showcase BamCore's DuoShear and newly released MonoShear framing systems, both of which offer superior strength, thermal performance, and acoustic insulation compared to traditional stud construction. These cutting-edge systems are proven to significantly reduce construction time and material waste, while decarbonizing the built environment.

“The collaboration with D.R. Horton, BamCore and Builders FirstSource further underscores Babcock Ranch’s commitment to serving as a living laboratory and testing ground for new home building solutions,” said Syd Kitson, Chairman and CEO of Kitson & Partners. “As we continue to create the ‘hometown of tomorrow’ and usher in the next era of building design, we will seek out and support sustainable, innovative, climate resilient, energy efficient, and community focused partners.”

Designed for one to three story applications, BamCore’s MonoShear framing system offers builders and developers a powerful tool to streamline operations, improve product quality, and meet the growing demand for affordable, sustainable, carbon-negative, high-performance housing. To demonstrate the speed and ease of BamCore's advanced prefabricated framing systems, D.R. Horton, the largest homebuilder in the United States, and Builders FirstSource, the nation’s largest building products supplier, framed a 2,200 sqft home in 2  hours on December 16, 2024 in Babcock Ranch’s Palmetto Landing neighborhood.

The results from this pilot project at Babcock Ranch’s Palmetto Landing neighborhood have the potential to pave the way for broader adoption of sustainable, green building practices and technologies to develop more climate resilient, energy efficient, and environmentally friendly housing around the world.

Justin Robbins, D.R. Horton's Southwest Florida Division President, stated, "This collaboration aligns well with our commitment to innovation and sustainability. BamCore's products have been tested to Miami-Dade standards and have proven to be a hurricane-approved product that offers us a way to build stronger, more energy-efficient homes while reducing our carbon footprint. Initial assessments suggest we could see thermal performance improvements of up to 55% compared to traditional framing methods."
